Eco-Renovation: Design and Sustainability

When we discovered the space that would become yök, we knew from the outset that we wanted to preserve its essence. Built in 1900, it featured Nolla mosaic floors, original woodwork, and high ceilings with modernist moldings, architectural elements that deserved to be protected.
Restoration, for us, is a form of responsibility. We chose to breathe new life into what already existed, guided by cradle-to-cradle design principles, circular thinking, and common sense.
We prioritized natural, recyclable materials and worked with local designers and suppliers. Systems were integrated to reduce both water and energy consumption. Whenever possible, we opted for second-hand solutions over new purchases. Many of the pieces that now inhabit the space, mirrors, sinks, furniture, lighting, come with a history that continues here.

Our goal was to create apartments where living consciously does not mean compromising on comfort. A place where the guest experience aligns with respect for the environment, the city, and its residents.
yök is a space restored with care, where every design decision is intentional and aimed at long-term wellbeing. From the materials you touch to the lighting in each room, everything has been thoughtfully selected to offer an experience that is authentic, sustainable, and coherent.
Eco-renovation is our way of contributing to the city: honoring its memory, projecting it into the future, and proving that a different kind of tourism—fairer, more human, more conscious, is possible. At yök, this is what sustainable design means to us: a tool for better living.
